We are a congregation committed to helping our members and the communities where they live. We strive for a partnership between traditional Judaism and the present needs of modern Jews.

- Balancing respect for tradition and open intellectual inquiry, the synagogue builds on the ground-work of its founder, Mordecai M. Kaplan. Since its beginning in 1922, the SAJ has combined a center for Jewish study with an active inter-generational community. Rabbi Michael Strassfeld continues to lead the congregation in this tradition. Egalitarian services (featuring Cantor Elizabeth Stevens) held on Shabbat and on holidays bring together spiritual experience and an intellectually challenging discussion of text. The SAJ is affiliated with the Conservative and Reconstructionist Movements.
