Shamash Ends Email List Hosting
As you may know Shamash was launched around 1992, to promote networking within the Jewish community and provide organizations with affordable Internet resources. Since that time the Shamash project has been sustained in various administrative homes, most recently the project was transferred from Hebrew College to MyJewishLearning, Inc in mid-2010.
When Shamash began offering its email list service (now ListServ), it was offering Jewish organizations a technologically advanced way to communicate with its constituents that was difficult to find elsewhere. Technology and the communication resources available have come a long way since 1992. There are now better, more effective, cost-efficient communications tools. Thus, it has become difficult to justify continuing the Shamash ListServ service in these difficult economic times since it operates with an annual net loss in revenue.
Therefore, as of 7/1/2014, we will be shutting down the Shamash ListServ service. This was not a decision we came to lightly.
