Giving Opportunities
The members of Temple Beth Elohim aim to "heal the world" through Tikkun Olam. Through the generosity and love of our member families we have helped those in crisis, honored those who are admired, remembered those who are gone. Your donation to one of the funds below will be put to use as specified. All donations are greatly appreciated.
Building Fund: Now that we are in our beautiful new building we will continue to enhance the decor and also offset the cost of the few remaining items that need to be finished. Donations to the Building Fund for any reason are most welcome.
General Fund: Donations to the General Fund are always welcome and are used in any way needed to operate the Temple. Donations may be made for any occasion.
Landscaping Fund: The trees and shrubs that will shade and shelter us are now in. Donations to the Landscaping Fund will help us offset this cost and you may name a tree or grove for a loved one. Information about this new endevour will be posted soon.
Lester Welsher Scholarship Fund: Lester Welsher, an active member of our Temple, loved children and was very involved with our Religious School. Lester Welsher's wife and children set up this fund in his memory to help deserving high school graduates who have served the Temple and plan to continue their education. Checks should be made payable to: Lester Welsher Scholarship Fund. A donation may be made for any occasion by contacting Mrs. Sylvia Welsher via the Temple.
Memorial Plaque: If a loved on has passed away, you may wish to have their name commemorated on one of our Memorial Plaques. The light will be lit every year of their yahrzeit, which provides a certain comfort to those remaining. Contact Harriet Susnitzky via the Temple for more information regarding adding a name to the plaque.
Mike Meyer Library Fund: Mike Meyer was a man who loved children and education. The Mike Meyer Library Fund was set up to provide books for our library. The Gish Family Library has a wonderful selection of all types of books, which are available to our members to read in the building or to take home on loan. In recent years the scope of the Fund has been expanded to include purchasing audio-video equipment as well as videotapes related to Jewish culture.
Music Fund: We are privileged to have Robin Sills as our Soloist and Richard Sills as our Organist. They provide music at Friday night services throughout the year and direct our Choirs. To help defray the cost of our music, maintaining the organ, etc., we have established a Music Fund. Donations may be made for any reason.
Prayer Book Fund: Donations to the Prayer Book Fund are made in memory of or in honor of someone. Donations may be made on the occasion of a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, a wedding, a graduation, a retirement, etc. Each prayer book (whether it be the regular weekly prayer book, Gates of Prayer, or the High Holiday book, Gates of Repentance) costs $25. A bookplate will be placed in the book indicating who made the donation and purpose.
Rabbi's Discretionary Fund: Sometimes people are in trouble or need help and contact Rabbi Acrish. Via the Discretionary Fund he is able to provide confidential assistance as he sees fit. Your donation should be made to: Rabbi's Discretionary Fund and sent to the Rabbi or the Temple office.
Remembrance Fund: Be the occasion happy or sad, a donation acknowledging your feelings may be made to our Remembrance Fund. Donations are used to purchase items for the Temple such as the new lightweight tables, chairs in the sanctuary, kitchen ranges, coffeepots, dishes, etc. An acknowledgment will be sent if appropriate, and the item will be noted in the Menorah.
The Tree of Life: Located in the back of the sanctuary (and gracing our homepage), our Tree of Life commemorates milestones and special events. Each leaf or stone is personally engraved to your specifications. A Bar or Bat Mitzvah, wedding, anniversary, birthday, college graduation, birth. Any happy event may be celebrated on the Tree of Life.
Donations will be printed in the Menorah, and donations of $18 or more will be acknowledged as appropriate.

Do you buy food, use gas, travel, planning renovations, need a birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduation, baby or wedding shower, baby or wedding gifts?
Do you want to help cover the expenses of the new Temple without any cost to you?
Store certificates/gift cards, most in the form of a debit card, in varied denominations, are purchased by the Temple at a discounted rate; e.g., Macy's 9%, Starbucks 6%, food stores 4%, gas companies 2%. The certificates are sold to you at face value.
If every family participates in this program by purchasing only $200 in food store certificates, the monthly income is over $2000. By adding clothing stores, and other higher percentage certificates, the monthly income can be over $3000. The sky's the limit!

In addition to Shaws, Shoprite, Stop & Shop, and Waldbaum's/A&P, the following cards are immediately available: Bed, Bath & Beyond, Macy's, Home Depot, and Toys R Us. The complete

Orders can be placed easily as follows:
- 1) Come to the Temple during Sunday school and see us in the lobby.
2) Call Wendy 845-227-5524, if I’m not home leave a message and I will call you back.
3) Email your orders to Wendy at giftcards@templebethelohim.org, I will send you a confirmation
4) All cards that are in stock can be purchased any time the Temple office is open.

Support our fundraising efforts each time you shop online at Amazon.com and its partners. The Temple will earn a commission for products you purchase in any of the Amazon.com departments. Most important to remember is that for the Temple to benefit, you MUST enter Amazon.com directly from the Temple website. This will ensure that purchase is credited to the Temple.
Note to our college students: Did you know that you can order your textbooks on line from Amazon and help the Temple at the same time? The Temple even earns a commission on used texts.

Don't Throw Away That Empty Ink Jet
or Laser Cartridge! Have an Obsolete Cell Phone? Bring it to Temple Beth Elohim!!! |
Thank you for participating in Temple Beth Elohim’s ink jet recycling program. We have expanded to include Laser cartridges and cell phones too!
You can help! Any cartridge with a printhead can be recycled, regardless of brand or type. Do you have an HP, Lexmark, Xerox, Compaq, Samsung, Kodak, or Canon printer? Bring in your empty cartridges (placed in the original box that you would have thrown away to keep it safe from spills and damages, or a Ziploc bag) or cell phones and put them in the box in the cloakroom.
(Note: Epson cartridges cannot be recycled - they don't have a printhead. Damaged, remanufactured, or refilled cartridges do not qualify for this program.)
Benefits to our community:
Reduce pollution. Cartridges do not decompose for 1,000 years.
Save energy. Empty ones can be remanufactured and reused.
No buying, no selling, no burden to anyone.

"Traditions: A Collection of Recipes" by our members and the families and friends is on sale at the Judaic Shop and in the Temple office. Sisterhood's beautiful creation is a great idea for Hanukkah gift giving. You might also want to give one to any child who is way at college and does his of her own cooking. May people have bought a copy for each of the children so that they will always have a handy collection of Jewish recipes available. The is also a chapter explaining many food traditions for holidays throughout the year.
